DOCUMENTARY FILMING/EDITING TECHNIQUES
Thu, 23 Jul 2009 19:21
I'm currently in the middle of production for a full-length documentary about public education and I was curious if any seasoned filmmakers had advice on either production or post-production. Specifically, I would like to know how I should prepare for editing (transcribing etc.). I've directed several short films, so I have experience with editing equipment so that is not an issue. I already have over 10 hours of footage and I expect to triple that within the coming months. Any help at all would be deeply appreciated.

Weird that no one responded to your query.  Now that it's November, how far have you come along in post production?

Hey Antiokus, if you're having problems shooting in classroom settings - maybe try searching for groups and pages on Facebook that deal with education. Some of those may have some great ways in for you to shoot and have contacts you can use for your work? Just a thought. Good luck!

Hey again Antokius. Was also thinking, maybe one way to figure this out is to contact your local film council and ask about permits there - they should be able to help you at least with answers about what is required in your community? Or, look up documentaries about schools, shot in schools and ask those filmmakers how they worked it out? Good luck again dude, hope it works out!

How about masking or blurring the identities of the children.
