Context
Multiplatform Productions brings together creative multiplatform teams from drama, entertainment, comedy and factual for the first time into one centre of excellence for multiplatform content creation. It’s the hub for co-ordinating development innovation and production modernisation across Vision as a group, providing its expertise and creativity to projects in all genres.

The Navigation and Services division of MPP sits across the department providing centralised knowledge and support for everything MPP produces. Navigation and Services also develops tools and systems that improve the user’s experience across bbc.co.uk.

Increasingly BBC programme support is provided by www.bbc.co.uk/programmes which delivers information for every programme broadcast by the BBC. This is conceived as an ongoing product, owned and run by FM&T, which will be iteratively developed.

The Editorial Assistant will be a member of a small team working with the content on /programmes for Vision programmes (Factual, Comedy, Entertainment and Drama).
While the focus of this role is currently on /programmes, there may be a need for the post-holders to work across output at a similar level elsewhere in Multiplatform Productions.

AIMS OF THE JOB
The post holder will be responsible for checking and maintaining the quality of the content on /programmes for Vision programmes and creating further content around individual programmes.

The post holder will also need to liaise with colleagues across Multiplatform Productions and Vision, giving advice and information on how to get the best out of /programmes.

The post holder will also tag all new programmes with relevant keywords to improve their indexing in BBC Search and horizontal linking across bbc.co.uk

ORGANISATION
The post holder will report to the Producer, APS.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To check, edit and maintain the quality of the content on /programmes for Vision programmes.

To record and exchange information with other groups involved with the smooth running of /programmes, in order to collaboratively increase the quality of the service.

To create further content around individual programmes – copy, pictures and video clips. To liaise with TV teams, agents, marketing etc as required.

To provide support and advice to a wide range of people in TV production teams on how to get the best out of /programmes.

To tag programmes with relevant keywords.

To refer relevant compliance issues to the Producer, APS.
To work on other programme support sites and projects as needed, creating content and providing administrative and technical support as required, and building pages using Homesite or a CMS.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential
• Copywriting experience for the web. Solid experience of writing and checking copy to a style guide (punctuation, grammar and spelling).
• A focus on detail and accuracy.
• A thorough and systematic approach to tasks.
• Experience in creating engaging web content around programme brands.
• A good understanding of metadata; an ability to choose appropriate keywords to describe content.
• Excellent organisational skills; this role requires dealing with regular deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills: the ability to liaise effectively and confidently with a range of professional people, often in high-pressure situations.
• Good knowledge of Photoshop and the ability to manipulate images, plus an understanding of what makes a good image on the web and how to use text and pictures together
• Good web-literacy; a thorough understanding of html and how various CMS systems work, and of ftp packages.
• Working knowledge of Word, Access, Outlook and Excel
• The ability to learn new things quickly; a flexible, ‘can-do’ attitude
