2012 has undoubtedly been a banner year for The Smalls, and it is proud to be making new friends everywhere – like the Berlin Film Society. Formed during this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, this organization aims to organize monthly screenings and pop-up events in the city. Next week, on Thursday October 11, they are bringing The Smalls to their local audience, with some of the shortlisted films from last month’s The Smalls Film Festival.
Jack Howard, the founder and director of the Berlin film Society, will host the event with special guest (and our Managing Director) Kate Tancred. Howard shared his thoughts about the films, stating, "This selection explores the melancholic notions of absence, loss, yearning, and the ties of love. I'm interested in piecing together these very different films, which each belong to their own specific genres, in a way that will suggest some kind of continuity. From house arrest to homelessness, the seeds of love and flirtation to bitter resentment and an inability to let go, these films, when viewed together in this series, present a very real depiction of the human condition in today's society."
Drinks and canapés will be served prior to the 9pm screening, and a Special Q&A with Kate will follow after.
If you are a Smalls member in Berlin, or will be in the city at that time, we hope you can go, say hi to Kate, and send us your feedback! For more information on the event, visit http://berlinfilmsociety.com/
