Hate trendy bars, small dogs and being told what being “British” means?

Do you have an idea, or even a film, that you think totally speaks to the theme “SIGNS”? Is it funny, dramatic or graphically stunning? Does it tell a story? Or, maybe it’s just original in its own way. Finally - can you get your fabulous idea across in less than 5 minutes?

Breaking Ground
Coming up in October 2008: The traveling European Student Film Festival, Breaking Ground, is set to stimulate future co-operation over borders.

Here’s something to await in the year 2008: a new, traveling student film festival set to tour Europe. From October 2008, the Breaking Ground festival will be held each month in one of the eight participating countries.

Based on an idea of Dutch film students, the festival is set up to give a platform to filmmakers at the starts of their career to show their work on the big screen. Not only in their own school or even country, but in the whole of Europe!

The weekend-long festival starts with a screening of films from the country that is the month’s focus. The audience favorite of the night will be shown the following month in the next country. On the second day, professional filmmakers will host workshops on numerous film-related topics. That night there will also be an international screening of one film from each of the participating countries.

Breaking Ground is there to stimulate as much interaction among filmmakers as possible. An important part of the project is that every one of the student filmmakers will be present at the screening of their films and will be talking about them with other students. Besides meeting each other at the discussions, screenings and workshops, local students will host their foreign counterparts at home.
