The World

“The World” is an interpretation of a 17th Century metaphysical poem that deals with the nature of eternity. Like much great poetry it is universal and timeless. I wanted to reflect that fact but also add an element of broader human interest.

These are soldiers from World War 2. They are on leave but their future is uncertain. In a sense they are facing eternity and judging by the detached looks on some of their faces, they know it. The continuous movement past the locked-off camera does not confuse, in fact it has an almost hypnotic effect. No edit, no distraction only the movement of life.

 

 

I always enjoyed the “Poems on The Underground” campaign. When you’re standing in a crowded train it’s a soothing diversion, a welcome escape. A good poem moves you, makes you think and frees up your mind. A great poem transcends reality.

What motivates me? Love of poetry.
