We just had our last CAN of the summer – when we’re back on Sept 30, it will be autumn and we’ll be back to our usual start time of 7pm. Vacations will be over, the buzz for the 2012 London Olympics will overtake the memories of Beijing, and we’ll be in the midst of the home stretch for the US presidential election. In a season of many changes, we look forward to coming back every month, armed with several fantastic short films to help inspire and revive you.
We keep hearing from our regulars how stimulating it is to see incredible short films that they wouldn’t be able to find on their own. Many are aspiring filmmakers themselves, and they keep coming back – whether they are looking for a kick in the pants to motivate, or to remind themselves why they pursue filmmaking in the first place. It’s a real testament to the filmmakers whose films that we have been lucky enough to screen, and why we keep doing what we do.
THE CAN last night is a perfect example of the confluence of a variety of filmmaking talent; we screened the entire series of five EXQUISITE CORPSE films produced by Little Minx. Five directors – Laurent Briet, Josh Miller, Chris Nelson, Malik Sayeed, and Philip Van – showed off their talent by creating a series of films built on a paradigm invented by the Surrealists in 1925. Taking the last line of the preceding directors script, each filmmaker crafted a film about a ‘Little Minx’.
Each and every film was a real eye opener – we were all blown away by how 5 very unique directors could craft such high quality films based on a singular idea. For those who aren’t in NYC, we strongly encourage you to visit Little Minx (

Thank you again for all your support, and especially to our friends at RSA last night for coming by. We’ll see you next month!
