If you believe Charlie Chaplin, all it takes to make a comedy is a park, a policeman and a pretty girl. Whether you agree with Chaplin or not, if you think you’ve got what it takes to make people laugh – here is your chance.
The Smalls and
Paramount Comedy are proud to present
The Comedy Smalls, a competition aimed at discovering the comedy talent of tomorrow. Paramount Comedy has a successful history of developing new talent, which includes the launch of some of the UK’s best loved comedy stars like Sasha Baron Cohen, Matt Lucas, David Walliams and Simon Pegg. Now it could be your turn to get your big break, as the winner of The Comedy Smalls will get the opportunity to have an original idea commissioned by the channel.
We want your imagination to run free and wild. All we ask is that you remember to put your ideas into an entertaining format and send them to us before the deadline date. Make us smile, snigger or cry with laughter – but whatever you do, just remember to put your very best foot forward, upward, or in your mouth. This is a genuine opportunity for you to sparkle, and to show that you are serious enough about comedy to make the rest of us laugh. Show us, and the world, that your comedy can cut it.
This year’s theme is
“WORK”. Go ahead and explore hard work or tell us about someone hardly working. Make us laugh at a work of art or a piece of work. The choice is yours, just make it so funny our esteemed judging panel will want to see you and your work again.
The requirements? Your film should be a maximum of 5 minutes long and
the deadline for entries is May 30 2008.
The
shortlisted films will be aired on Paramount Comedy and, as you already know, the winner will be offered the opportunity to have an original idea
commissioned by the channel.
The
winner will be announced at The Comedy Smalls Awards in London, in June 2008.
Whether you are a writer, director, designer, illustrator or comedian, you are invited to enter and
download your entry form here. Please make sure you read the terms and conditions and follow the instructions.
NOTE: You have the option
to upload your film online or send it in by post. If you upload your film online, it is important that you note your Upload Reference on your entry form.
If you have any queries or questions, drop us a line at comedy@thesmalls.com.
That’s it. Do all of the above and then kick back, wait to see if your film has made the shortlist, and, eventually, if you’ve won. You will be notified if you've made it, don't worry.
