Joseph Losey (1909-1984), one of great Directors of the world, is being celebrated at BFI Southbank. The early works are being shown between 4th of June and 30th of July this summer. After becoming blacklisted during the McCarthy Era Losey moved to Britain where he worked with among others Harold Pinter.

Known for taking on politically daring subjects and creating truly special films with the help of blacklisted writers and by collaborating with talented actors such as Dirk Bogarde and Stanley Baker, Losey goes down in history as an important contributor to the world of cinema. He often worked with exceptional British cinematographers and some say his voice and vision in the 1950s are among the greatest things that could have happened to British cinema – often his influences are compared to those of Kubrick in the 1960s.

Films to be shown include The Criminal (14th June, 19th June) and Losey's feature debut The Boy With Green Hair (June 6th) and many others.
