Old Is New Again

You know, a lot of people don't give radio the credit it deserves anymore.  It's still a viable form of entertainment - who hasn't switched on the radio to listen to some tunes or to some crabby, opinionated talk radio hosts.  It's also a great source of news, sports games, and variety programming.  Whether you are listening on the road via satellite, off your old transistor, or even on the internet these days, this 120 year old technology is still kickin' it.

One aspect of radio that seems to be in danger of being forgotten, however, are the old radio serial dramas, which captured the imagination of adults and children every week.  Often broadcast live, these were feats of imagination and technical wizardry; pre-TV, part play, and lacking a visual element.  People used their IMAGINATION to fill in the gaps instead - the action, the characters, the settings, it was all up to you to visualize.  One project that wants to recapture this feeling of old radio shows is something called The Leviathan Chronicles.

This project caught my attention from their member profile on The Smalls (/members/the-leviathan-chronicles.go) - somewhere between radio books and podcasting, the Leviathan Chronicles is a Sci-Fi based action adventure that really does make the old, new again.  Set in the present, and focusing on a race of immortals who are suddenly beginning to die off, this series is attempting a scope of story only seen in novels, but produced much more like a movie.  Incredible sound effects, professional acting, and an interactive website all fill out the world.

But so much of it is up to you, and that's what I love to enjoy.  What does the world of Leviathan look like?  How about the characters?  You choose - it's all up to your brain and your tastes.  We're fed visual information constantly - why not take a little break and let your mind roam free?  Have a listen to the free episodes that are available online at www.theleviathanchronicles.com
