PLOT PLOT, FIZZ FIZZ

Before we get into our pontification on plot this week, let’s start by talking about HOW people talk about plot. Take a look at some common terms that get thrown around:

Plot POINTS

TURNING Points

TWISTS

REVEALS

Either this is the choreography for Dancing with the Stars, or good visualization tools for your screenplay. Yes, in a lot of ways, plotting your script is like a dance. It takes an enormous amount of grace, skill, and most of all, practice. It certainly requires the most work to get right (and you’ll learn, in rewrites, that sometimes it’s never done).

So don’t get frustrated when you’re up at 3am, working at your second act, which just isn’t coming together. Sit back, clear your head, and think of the basics.
