We can’t believe this was only the third time THE CAN has happened – despite the rainy weather, we were graced with another stellar turnout of regulars and new faces at what is quickly becoming our favorite time of the month – possibly even edging out pay day. (I am not waiving my right to get paid, by the way, that’s not what I mean.)
This month was particularly special, because we had a few films that were by filmmakers based in New York City, and a few of them showed up. Jesse Scaturro and Yannis Pappas’s MEASURING UP (which you can find on The Smalls) was the audience favorite of the evening – and these two intelligent and hilarious gentlemen graciously worked the crowd and stuck around afterwards for some tasty White Rabbit beverages.
We were also very happy to meet Phillip Van, director of DUNNY, whose impressive resume almost left me tongue tied on the mike. We hope to see more of him in the future, and since Filmmaker Magazine names him one of the 25 New Faces of Independent Film, we’re sure he will. Finally, a shout out to Ro Rao, who couldn’t make it but shared his beautiful music video for the Daniel Johnston song TRUE LOVE WILL FIND YOU IN THE END.
One more special thanks to John Robertson at Curious Pictures, who helped us secure many of the films this go around, Paula Odevall for ardent support and bringing her TODA entourage, and thank you to all of the people who have listened to me rave about the mini burgers (which I’ve never tried) at the White Rabbit, but still have not offered to buy me any.
Maybe next month, specifically on MARCH 25th!
Our Feb 26 lineup was:
-THE RAFTSMAN by Keith Bearden
-HERNANDO by Nicolas Lesaffre, Jerome Haupert
-AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL by Phillippe Grammaticopoulos
-MEASURING UP by Yannis Pappas & Jesse Scaturro
-TINGEL TANGEL by Kathryn Ferguson
-DUNNY by Phillip Van
-TRUE LOVE WILL FIND YOU IN THE END by Ro Rao
