The actual DVD disc for THE CAN goes through a lot before it’s popped into the player at the White Rabbit bar. It’s put together in London, is tested vigorously, then sheathed with a protective case, and shipped via overnight courier across the Atlantic. By the time it arrives in our little hands, we’re pretty confident that there won’t be any surprises.
Little did we know that when we unwrapped the disc for our Jan 22nd edition of THE CAN that we would soon be screening an Oscar nominated short film. That’s right – the morning of the 22nd brought us the announcement of Academy Awards nominees, and the first film on our roster, Josh Raskin’s I MET THE WALRUS is now a nominee for Best Animated Short Film! Congratulations to Josh and the film’s producer, Jerry Levitan.
It was an impressive announcement that kicked off an evening of 8 amazing short films made by incredibly talented folk, some of who were at the event. The place was packed with new and returning THE CAN supporters, who were mesmerized by the quality of the work, and by the White Rabbit bar’s impressive food and drink menu.
THE CAN is really taking off, and we’re looking forward to including more high quality short films from around the world. For those who missed the show, please search around on The Smalls to catch up. And to avoid missing the next THE CAN, mark your calendars now – FEBRUARY 26th @7pm!
