THE CAN kicked off the Fall season with an incredible line up of films last night. A healthy crowd of new faces joined our regulars at the White Rabbit, where the drinks were bountiful and the mini burgers were – as usual - perfectly bite sized and juicy. It was only the second time in almost a year that I had these finger-licking morsels of beef in my mouth, and I wonder why I don’t eat them more often. Everyone who attends The Can will attest to the magic of these little brown patties of bliss.
Last night, we were also blessed with the presence of Anna Grund, Managing Director of the UK creative agency devilfish, who came all the way from London to attend. devilfish is our proud sponsor for the drinks every month, and we would be nowhere without their support. Anna is also the brains (and brawn) behind The Smalls, so none of us would be here without her. Thanks Anna!
The filmmakers in attendance were creators of two of the strongest pieces of the evening. Comedian and writer Kevin Maher’s “Dateline NBC: To Catch A Predator Outtakes” was a hilarious spoof of the morally ambiguous show. We were also graced with young filmmaker Hayley Morris, whose stop animation “Undone” wowed the crowd with her display of talent and creativity. We were proud to show it, and she should be proud of her film. Keep an eye out for this one.
A special shout out to all of our returning guests, and one in particular to someone who understandably could not attend – our friend John Robertson from Curious Pictures. He’s now the proud father of a baby girl – he totally has paternity leave from us, and we wish him hearty congratulations!
See y’all next month!
