These days, the first words out of my mouth when I wake up are ‘Summer Blockbuster’! I am beginning to think that everywhere I go, everything is HUGE, BIG, THE BEST, RECORD SHATTERING – this movie made more money per screen than this other one! This movie holds the record for biggest opening during a rainstorm! I feel like every accomplishment I have throughout the day deserves the same amount of enthusiasm. Don’t you?
MORE REBOOTS! Just because there is nothing sacred, we hear that Fox is considering rebooting the ‘Aliens’ franchise, which has been graced by directors like Ridley Scott and James Cameron. We previously reported on the ‘Karate Kid’ reboot – I think I smell Jaws, The Godfather, and Citizen Kane not too far away. What else do you think will (or should) be rebooted for audiences today?
TERMINATOR SMACKDOWN! Interestingly, not even the mighty marketing machine could really save the embarrassment of Terminator: Salvation coming in second to the Nightmare at the Museum sequel. I guess we should be happy that a movie that takes place in a museum beat out a mindless post apocalyptic android popcorn flick – but what do I know. I’m skipping both.
CAST ANNOUNCEMENTS! We actually are excited about this one. One of the few TV shows that hold our attention – Dexter – announced John Lithgow is joining the cast next season. While some of you only know Lithgow as the dumb alien from the sitcom Third Rock from the Sun, this guy is a really accomplished actor. Check him out in The World According to Garp and Blow Out.
EVERYHING IS COMING UP GREEN SCREEN! Take a look at Land of the Lost. I swear that thing could have been made in your living room or garage, as long as you paint everything green. Nothing in this movie looks real does it? ‘Cause nothing is. And it’ll make millions.
Making everything sound like a summer blockbuster business is really tiring… I have a new respect for these folks…
See you around!
