Nov. 27, 2007
On a cold and borderline snowy New York night we settled in to the White Rabbit bar on East Houston St., Lower East Side, for the launch of The Can.
The Can is an evening dedicated to short films where we invite the directors behind the films, industry folk, and film enthusiasts to mingle and meet. Despite it being a school night, people flocked to watch the films, partake in the drink specials, and for the extremely fortunate, use the credit card one very generous lady had left behind the bar (thanks Anna!)
After a few healthy New York-measured drinks we gathered to watch the nine selected films of the evening, all of which received enthusiastic reactions and applause. We were happy to see the directors who were able to attend receive such a rave response.
The concept behind The Can is to show great short films from around the world, of different disciplines with quality in common. Quality truly transcends all borders - both geographical and cultural - and the films on show were a mix of all things great about The Smalls.
We’re happy to be part of the ranks of New York film screenings that show great independent short films for free – thanks to those who joined us. Please spread the word of The Can!
Finally, a massive thank you to our sponsors, devilfish and Angry Ant Media.
The films on show were:
Pound – Evan Bernard
Jackie And Debra – Clay Wiener
Ce Que Je Suis – Joris Clerte
Earth To Earth – Nick Scott
Le Grand Content – Clemens Kogler
Not In My Family – Henry Saine
Overtime – Damien Ferrie
What The Fuck Is Parkour? – Jon Riche
Goodbye To The Normals – Jim Field Smith
The next date to put in the diary for The Can is
